    To Miss Phillips' Georgia Studies

    We are currently studying SSH83:  The student will analyze the immediate and longteerm causes of the American Revolution and their impact on Georgia.  

    We will be learning about:

     The importance of key issues and events that led to the Civil War; including slavery, states'rights, nullification, Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850 and the Georgia Platform,
    Kansas-Nebraska Act, Dred Scott case, election of 1860, the debate over secession in Georgia,
    and the role of Alexander Stephens. 
    Tthe importance of key events of the Civil War; include Antietam, Emancipation
    Proclamation, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, the Union blockade of Georgia's coast, Sherman's Atlanta Campaign, Sherman's March to the Sea, and Andersonville.
    Analyzing the impact of Reconstruction on Georgia and other southern states, emphasizing Freedmen's Bureau; sharecropping and tenant farming; Reconstruction plans; The 13th, 14th, and15th amendments to the constitution; Henry McNeal Turner and black legislators; and the Ku Klux Klan.

    It is EXTREMELY important for students to read the current chapter in our Georgia Studies book, Georgia in the American Experience.  Students are to be reading Chapters 10-13 this unit.  This ensures that students are able to participate in class notes and discussions.


    Students should be obtaining needed supplies (Especially pencils and sharpeners) and covering books!!!  See the supply list link to review supplies for this class!

    Please Note:  Students are responsible for completing ALL unfinished classwork for homework, to turn in the next day in at the beginning of class, unless otherwise stated!

    Miss Phillip's Educational Background


     In 2003 I obtained my teaching degree from The State University of New York at Oswego. I then began teaching at the elementary level in Syracuse, NY.  In 2007 I began working on my Master's Degree in reading and literacy at Walden University.  I have since completed this program.  Last year, I moved from Syracuse to Columbus and began teaching here at Harris County Carver Middle School.  I recently completed the Gifted Endorsement program which enables me to better meet the diverse needs of all of my students.  I have a passion for lifelong learning that I hope to pass on to my students.
